Leveling Methods

From The Chronicles of Jungalore Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

In order to gain strength and new classes in Jungalore, one must gain what is known as quest levels or simply levels. A character's level is a measure of their capability to do battle and work in the world, as well as their proficiency at doing quests. Originally, characters had to complete quests in order to gain levels, but as time went on, new methods of gaining levels were implemented.

All players start at level zero (going back to the tradition of having completed no quests), and the max level anyone can be is level 100. No character can gain levels beyond this for the sake of balance. Players may choose any of the following options in order to gain levels, so long as they meet the correct requirements for doing these methods.

Questing[edit | edit source]

Quests are the oldest form of gaining levels in Jungalore, dating back to the first iteration of the game. It is the basis of the level system itself as more quests completed meant new quests would be made available while limiting the availability of weaker quests.

In order to gain levels from quests, the following terms must be met.

  1. The character is below or equal to the quest's level.
    • In the case of hunting quests, below or equal to the monster being hunted.
  2. Other listed prerequisites are met, varying from quest to quest.
  3. The quest itself rewards quest levels, as some do not.
  4. In the case of quests that can only be done once per character, it must not have been completed by the character already.
  5. In the case of quests that can only ever be completed once, it must not have been completed ever.

Note that quests can still be accepted even if you are above the level of the quest. However, you will not gain levels from it, but may still gain the other rewards. You can, however, bypass this if you are helping a player with a quest within 20 levels beneath your own level, but you will only gain one level, regardless of however many levels it offers as a reward.

Pros[edit | edit source]

  • The main method of gaining levels.
  • Quests come in multiple varieties, such as hunting quests, story quests, dungeon quests, and gathering quests.
  • Not all quests are equal, some will award more levels than others.
  • Quests will always have some form of additional reward, such as a skill, title, or Legens.
  • Players may string a series of quests together into adventures for additional levels, and adventures can be strung together into sagas for even more levels. See below for more info.
  • Your introduction post can work as one immediate quest completion, as it sets up your character, their lifestyle, and many other elements in regards to their story.

Cons[edit | edit source]

  • Some quests are unique and can only be done once per character.
  • Some quests can only be done once ever before being completely removed.
  • Some quests can take a long time to complete.
  • Not all quests reward levels.

Adventures and Sagas[edit | edit source]

Adventures are player-made series of quests, either pre-exisiting or made from scratch, that detail a story. They don't need to be submitted in any way, merely played out. Every adventure consists of at least three quests, and can be done solo or in a party. Once an adventure is completed, on top of the main quest completion, the participating players also receive an additional three quest levels. The bare minimum reward an adventure can offer is six levels.

Sagas are a series of at least three adventures, and award six quest levels on completion of the final adventure, rather than three. This means the bare minimum a saga can reward is 21 levels. This breaks down as three from each adventure for a total of nine, the first two adventures offer an additional three each for six, and the final adventure offers six as it completes the saga.

Title Hunting[edit | edit source]

Main Article: Titles

Titles are awarded as achievements. Some are unique, while others can be gained by anyone. Due to the way that some of them work, some will offer levels while others will not.

Pros[edit | edit source]

  • Some titles are unique and are worn as badges of honor.
  • Not all titles are equal, and offer more levels than others.

Cons[edit | edit source]

  • Many titles are end-game, and as a result most won't give any reward besides bragging rights.
  • Given that many titles are also unique, the availability of titles will go down over time.
  • Some titles are incredibly difficult to obtain.

Combat: Equal or Stronger Enemies[edit | edit source]

Fighting in and of itself is a method for gaining levels in two ways. This section mainly focuses on the defeat of enemies equal to or greater than your own level. Every enemy comes with a level that its stats are based on. If your own level is equal to or less than its level, you gain a quest level. This can be done once per real day.

Pros[edit | edit source]

  • Can be done in conjunction with quests and gaining experience.

Cons[edit | edit source]

  • Only can be done once per real day.
  • As enemies get stronger, this is more of a supplement to quests than a method of leveling.

Experience[edit | edit source]

Fighting enemies or burning equipment in a campfire gives your character experience. This system is taken from the former armament system, and acts as a supplement to the other methods of gaining levels.

The amount of experience required is as follows.

<math>REXP = NL * 100</math>

Wherein;

  • REXP is the required experience for the next level.
  • NL is the value of the next level.

The required experience for a player going up from level zero to one is 100, as one is the next level. For level one to level two, it would be 200, for level three it would be 300, etc. All the way up to 10,000 exp for level 99 to level 100.

Pros[edit | edit source]

  • Can be done in conjunction with all other methods of gaining levels.
  • Current experience carries over if you level up in any way other than via experience.
  • If you level up via experience and have more experience than needed to level up, the remainder carries over.
  • The amount of experience earned by burning equipment can be increased by the Camp Building job perk.
  • For every medical condition, you gain 20% more experience.

Cons[edit | edit source]

  • Incredibly slow and only done to supplement the other methods of gaining levels.
  • Even if you retain current experience, the required experience will still increase to the new next level.
  • Burning equipment is costly. On top of the cost of the equipment itself, whether being bought or crafted, there's also the wood requirement and will requirement.
  • If only leveling via experience, the total required experience from level zero to level 100 is 505,000.
