Summary[edit | edit source]

Meridians are one of the six races in Jungalore. They are known to boast extra offensive capabilities, and are very well suited for any character who wants to deal high damage. Due to their starting offensive boost, they have the capability to deal with enemies fairly quickly.

Every meridian has the ability to swim great distances, and even come with a special version of the swimming skill, allowing them to breathe underwater indefinitely.

Despite being one of the strongest races, they are often driven from their homes. Once it is said they lived in north Remnvald as a form of sea dragon before moving to the former location of Remnvald Keep. When the keep fell, they moved to the former site of New Meridia. After the cataclysm, the meridians moved to Selk where they are lead by Queen Philena Taltanis.

Meridians live in a matriarchal society. The queen is the utmost authority in meridian culture. Further, meridians live in a clan system. A meridian lives in a clan from the day they are born, based on the father's clan. It is extremely shameful to leave or betray one's clan, and doing so often leads to the child being disowned and left in the wild to be eaten by dragons. The ones who survive often wander the world as mercenaries, pirates, or are written into legend as renowned warriors for the feat of slaying a dragon on their own.

However, even if the father determines the clan, it is unlikely that a clan is lead by a male in meridian society. A male has no reproductive rights, and is often underpaid in his own society. Male meridians will also often die in battle with dragons or dangerous sea creatures.

Appearance[edit | edit source]

Meridians are classified as sea creatures but have traits of both amphibians and fish. They are humanoid in shape, and despite being the descendants of sea dragons, have skin with hard patches of scales. Meridians are omnivores, but due to their carnivorous background, maintain their sharp teeth and claws. Meridians lack hair, but their long tail fins growing off the back of their head, and the fins growing to the side of the head are often seen as an equivalent to hair (although with an added practical use).

Behind the head fins, every meridian has drooping pointed ears which are extra sensitive while above water, and their eyes are extremely sensitive to light. Every member of the race also has gills by their rib cage and on the sides of their neck. They also possess long fins on their forearms (which some meridians choose to have amputated for easier shield or gauntlet use), webbed feet and hands, and fins just above their ankles. On their hips are short fins that cascade down to the sides and back, fusing with the tail.

Meridians do show sexual dimorphism. Females tend to have more vibrant skin, scales, and glowing eyes. Males in their old age tend to grow whiskers above the mouth. Males tend to be stronger than females, while females all have breasts of at least a B cup and wide hips, and are able to pick up on ideas easier.

Meridian children hatch from eggs, which are blue in colour, the eggs also have a wave-like pattern to them. Newborn meridians lack limbs, but grow them within the first year of life. They don't begin to stand up or walk until well into the third year, but do learn to speak by the second year. A meridian reaches adulthood in their 30s.

History[edit | edit source]

Among the oldest of the races in Jungalore, meridians were first depicted in the caves found in the frozen northern part of Remnvald. During this time, few would stand on two feet. It is drawn that they had first lived there, and the drawings continued to lead south, depicting stories of war with dragons. The scholars of pre-cataclysm Jungalore found that the meridians defied the dragons of old and chose to branch off and become their own civilization. As the drawing continued south, along with the meridian society, they not only began to stand on two feet, but conflicts began to boil between the male members and female members of early meridian society.

It eventually became that females would lead the first clan, the Taltanis Clan, and it was when they settled at the former location of Remnvald Keep that the meridian matriarchy was established by Meridia Taltanis I. The town was named Meridia, after the queen, and the people chose to name the race after her.

During the rule of Meridia I, male slavery was not only common, but encouraged, and this tradition continued even during the reign of Meridia Taltanis II. Soon it came to pass that the dragon king Exodiin took the plight of the slaves of Old Meridia and took the place as his new kingdom. However, the slaves had been deceived by the dragon king, and he and his one hundred dragons feasted upon the many members of the meridian race. Meridia II herself was impaled above the throne by a legendary weapon, but her corpse had long since been removed.

Being vulnerable, Princess Meridia Taltanis III lived to improve conditions, punishing crimes harder and outlawing slavery of all kinds. Out of veneration for their similar kind, the people swore off fishing, and swore off religion, instead choosing to follow a spiritual and physical path of self-improvement to take back the town of Meridia. Yet, even the princess would fall due to the treachery of one meridian who sought not only Meridia, but the entire world of Jungalore. Civil war broke out in New Meridia where Princess Meridia III was killed, and the Chalice of Meridia, one of the six sacred artifacts of Jungalore, was used to make a wish.

In this moment, the cataclysm also occurred.

The surviving meridians fled to Selk, where the only survivor of the royal bloodline, Philena Taltanis, had lived with the father of her child who was soon to hatch.
